As NBN reports with reference to the official X-account of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the US intends to blackmail China with such actions.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the fentanyl issue is a shaky pretext for justifying the increase in US tariffs on imported Chinese goods, and Beijing will introduce appropriate countermeasures aimed at protecting China's rights and interests, which is entirely legal and necessary.

Moreover, it is the US authorities who are responsible for the emergence of the “fentanyl crisis” within their country, while China, on the contrary, “took decisive steps” to resolve this problem. Thus, Washington has not recognized China's efforts, and is trying to denigrate and shift the blame to China, pressuring and blackmailing with increased tariffs, thereby punishing Beijing for its assistance.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized:

This will not solve the US problem and will undermine our anti-drug dialogue and cooperation… If the US wants a war – tariff, trade or any other – we are ready to fight to the end.

Earlier we wrote that Vance called the “best alternative” to introducing peacekeeping troops into Ukraine.
