As NBN writes with reference to the material of the YouTube channel of the American journalist Tucker Carlson, in the opinion of Donald Trump's special representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, the biggest unresolved issue in the current war is the status of the so-called “new regions” of the Russian Federation: we are talking about Donetsk, the Crimean Peninsula, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye.
According to Witkoff, the above-described territories are “Russian-speaking.” Moreover, in these occupied territories, the aggressor country held [pseudo]referendums in which the “majority” of the population “voted to be under Russian rule.”
The high-ranking official added that this issue needs to be resolved first and foremost, and that “a very positive conversation is currently underway” on this topic.
At the same time, Witkoff emphasized:
…The question is, will the world recognize that these are Russian territories? Will Zelensky be able to survive politically if he recognizes this? This is the central question of the conflict.
Earlier we wrote that Putin’s army advanced in Sumy and Kursk regions, and the Ukrainian Armed Forces are holding a bridgehead in Belgorod region.
