Bloomberg writes that secret correspondence between American officials in the Signal messenger revealed the extent of the US leadership's contempt for their allies in Europe, the NBN publication reports.
According to journalists, in the chat, a user identified as the US vice president wrote: “I just hate having to bail out Europe again.” The politician also noted that Washington should minimize the risk to Saudi oil facilities.
In turn, the head of the American defense department agreed with Vance in correspondence. The minister wrote that he fully shared his disgust at the “European freeloading,” calling it “disgusting.”
The media report said that European leaders had previously been concerned about US policy: the White House had accused them of underfunding their defense and threatened to impose huge tariffs.
The situation was aggravated by Vance and Hegseth's speeches at the Munich Security Conference. The US Vice President criticized EU states for allegedly restricting freedom of speech and impeding radical parties, and the head of the Pentagon stated that America cannot be primarily focused on the security of European countries.
Let us recall that the head of the US Department of Defense denies discussing Washington’s military plans in the Signal chat.
