Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth has denied reports of US military plans being discussed on the Signal messenger, lashing out at journalist Jeffrey Goldberg.

The head of the US Defense Department denies discussing the country's military plans in a Signal messenger chat that was accessed by the editor-in-chief of the American publication The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, NBN writes with reference to The Hill.

Hegseth said “nobody sent war plans,” calling Goldberg “a lying and deeply discredited so-called journalist.” He said The Atlantic's editor-in-chief “has made a career out of selling hoaxes over and over again.”

At the same time, representatives of the Democratic Party criticized the head of the Ministry of Defense. Deputy Seth Moulton said that classified information should not be disseminated through unprotected channels. The politician believes that the minister went too far and that the scandalous incident put American troops in danger.

Belgium has reportedly called on EU members to respond to US President Donald Trump's humiliating remarks and trade war.
