As reported by NBN, citing BFMTV material, French Prime Minister François Bayrou made a harsh statement: the above-described tariffs will be a “catastrophe” for the global economic sector as a whole, and will also create “enormous difficulties” for Europe.
In Bayrou's words, the US is simply betraying its allies by ignoring the “serious times” facing European and Western nations, and such a move would be disastrous for the United States and Americans as every major region of the world is forced to turn inward and realize that trade wars are now the rule.
Separately, the French Prime Minister accused the US administration of “no longer being in solidarity” with its partners, as evidenced by this “trade war”.
Bayrou concluded:
…This opens a period of uncertainty that calls into question what we have been building for so long, and that calls into question our economy and French society as a whole.
