In an interview with LB.ua, the military commander commented on a large NYT article about the failure of the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2023. The American media outlet’s material states that, as planned by former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valeriy Zaluzhny, the main target of the operation was to be Melitopol, 12 brigades and a lot of weapons were concentrated in this direction, NBN writes.

According to journalists, the counteroffensive failed because Syrsky made his own adjustments – the general wanted to recapture Bakhmut from the Russians. As a result, the forces and resources prepared for the operation were distributed, and failure befell the defenders in two directions.

The military leader claims that what was published in Western media is not true. According to him, he learned a lot about what he allegedly said and did.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that the counteroffensive in the Bakhmut area was carried out with fewer forces and resources than indicated in the New York Times article. Therefore, the defenders did not have enough resources to achieve success, in particular, they were unable to cut off the enemy's three main logistical routes – the roads to Gorlovka, Popasna and Debaltseve – to force the occupiers to retreat.

Let us recall that the head of the Central Control Center clarified the general’s words about the beginning of the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces on the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
