Ukraine is approaching the implementation of another of the European Union's requirements. As reported by Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development Serhiy Derkach, we are talking about toll roads, writes WomanEL.
According to Derkach, a draft law has already been developed, and traffic analysis is currently underway on six key routes to prepare a mechanism for implementing toll infrastructure. He also noted that the issue of toll roads is being actively discussed not only in the government, but also with investors and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
Toll roads in Ukraine: how will this change the infrastructure
In order to make a high-quality road, it is necessary to conduct an analysis of traffic intensity. Currently, such an analysis is being conducted on six routes. There are already agreements with investors and the EIB to launch a toll road mechanism, the deputy minister said.
Which roads may become toll roads have not yet been disclosed. However, the official is confident that the introduction of toll infrastructure is inevitable. The funds collected for the use of toll roads are planned to be directed to:
- construction of new highways;
- maintenance and repair of existing roads.
Thus, this will allow not only to ensure the quality of the infrastructure, but also to attract private investors to its development. The decision on implementation will be made after the route analysis is completed.
Let us recall that the transition to toll infrastructure is one of Ukraine's obligations to the European Union in the context of integration into the European transport network. At the same time, the Deputy Minister emphasized that this is only the beginning of the path:
Sooner or later, toll roads will still be there. This is a necessary step for the development of the country's infrastructure, – Derkach emphasized.
Time will tell whether Ukrainian drivers are ready for such changes, but the experience of other countries shows that toll roads usually guarantee the quality and comfort of travel.
Earlier, we reported that prices in Ukraine increased by 44% during the war. Will products continue to become more expensive – experts' opinion.
