A new report from Holland & Barrett helped WomanEL find out. Holland & Barrett, the home of supplements and health products, knows a thing or two about healthy things. Every year, they release a report predicting some of the biggest trends we'll see in the coming year.
Here are just a few of the products and ingredients we'll be adding to our habits over the next 12 months.
Trends in the field of healthy nutrition in 2025: iodine
It's no secret that we're increasingly interested in brain health. In particular, what can be done to extend its longevity. According to Holland & Barrett, iodine, a supplement that has remained in the shadows in recent years, will begin to grow in popularity in 2025.
“Iodine, found in seaweed, fish and eggs, helps the thyroid gland function properly and secrete hormones that play an important role in brain development,” the report says.
Getting enough iodine is especially important during pregnancy, as it can support fetal brain development. However, iodine can also help support the adult brain, particularly in mental health, as the thyroid hormones that iodine helps the brain regulate can affect stress levels.
While most people can get the recommended daily amount of iodine (140 mg) from their diet, people who follow a vegan diet or those who don’t eat fish, eggs, cow’s milk, or other dairy products may want to consider finding iodine-fortified foods or taking a supplement. It’s worth noting that some plant-based dairy products also contain iodine, so check the label.

What products will be trending next year: psychobiotics

Holland & Barrett experts predict that by 2025, psychobiotics will help us further exploit the capabilities of the gut-brain axis.
“The link between beneficial bacteria in the gut and our mental state continues to generate interest,” the report says. Groundbreaking research into “psychobiotics” – foods that benefit the brain – is keeping fermented foods like kimchi and kefir in the spotlight.”
While some psychobiotic supplements exist, Holland & Barrett believes the focus will be on probiotics in fermented foods, so interest in kimchi and kefir will only grow. Other fermented foods to look out for include yogurt, sauerkraut, tempeh and miso.
Healthy eating trends in 2025: fiber drinks
Fiber isn’t just for eating. As we look for new ways to increase our fiber intake, Holland & Barrett expects sales of liquid fiber-based products to grow.
“Water brands are launching fiber-infused waters containing chicory root to offer an unconventional option to increase food intake,” the report says. “The recently launched H&B Haskap Powder, derived from haskap berries, is high in fiber and can be added to water to create your own fiber infusion.”
“The soda market has already started to embrace fiber with the advent of gut-health sodas that contain less sugar and 3 to 5 grams of fiber from companies like Fibe and Dalston’s Prebiotic Soda.”
Getting enough fiber from food is still important. But these drinks will help you increase your fiber intake on days when you're busy or simply eating less fiber, allowing you to easily get the recommended 30 grams per day.
