The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has adopted in the second reading a bill introducing certification of specialists in the field of mental health. According to the Ministry of Health, the innovations will provide uniform standards by which Ukrainian psychologists and psychotherapists will work. The document provides for:
• Certification of psychologists by the National Commission.
• Certification of psychotherapists by self-regulatory organizations with international recognition.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that now every citizen will have a guarantee of professional help, and specialists will receive official recognition.
The law also defines key terms for legal regulation of the industry, in particular “mental health”, “mental health services” and “mental health professionals”.
In addition, the document obliges employers to develop psychosocial support programs in the workplace, adapting international experience and taking into account the achievements of the mental health program “How are you?”. The president is now expected to sign the law.
