February 18, 2025 UkrPoshta officially puts into circulation the postage stamp “Cities of Heroes. Volnovakha ”, which is a continuation of a series dedicated to cities that have become symbols of heroism and indomitable Ukrainian people, reports WOMANEL. The release of this brand of UkrPoshta honors a city that was one of the first to take over the strokes of the war, and seeks to remind the heroism of the residents of Volnovakha and their contribution to the struggle for the freedom of our country. In honor of the courage of the city on March 6, 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded Volnovasi Honorary title of “City-Hero of Ukraine”.
Volnovakha is a city in the south of Donetsk region, located between Donetsk and Mariupol, which pro -Russian separatists and invaders tried to seize in 2014, but Ukrainian soldiers reflected the attack. Since then until February 2022, Volnovakha lived in the conditions of the frontal area. Despite the constant threats, Volnovakha residents have always demonstrated their patriotic position. In 2016, more than 3,000 inhabitants of the city created a chain of unity “Donbas is Ukraine” of more than 2 thousand Ukrainian towels from different areas of Donetsk region to show the unity of the region with Ukraine. The whole world learned about the small railway city after a terrible terrorist attack on January 13, 2015, when militants of the so -called “DNR” fired at the checkpoint of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, releasing from the “city” shells on a civilian bus. In response to this tragedy, the Ukrainians went to the march of the Peace “I – Volnovakha” to express support for residents of the city and honor the memory of the victims of the terrorist attack.
