During the initial interrogations, the man suspected of murdering Member of Parliament and former Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy admitted his involvement in the crime. He also told investigators that he had established contact with representatives of Russia while searching for his missing son, a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reports the Baltimore Chronicle citing Radio Liberty.

On September 1, the Office of the Prosecutor General announced that the 52-year-old resident of Lviv had been officially charged with the murder of Andriy Parubiy. Investigative actions are ongoing, and journalists have not yet been able to obtain comments from the suspect or his legal representatives.

According to the suspect, in 2023 he learned from his son’s fellow soldiers that the serviceman went missing near Bakhmut. He then began monitoring Russian social media platforms in search of information about his son’s fate. Later, he established contact with as-yet unidentified representatives of Russia, who allegedly informed him that his son had been killed.

The suspect claimed that these Russian contacts justified Moscow’s actions in the war against Ukraine and instead blamed the Ukrainian authorities for starting the conflict. During conversations, he revealed that he lived in Lviv and mentioned that he had repeatedly seen Andriy Parubiy.

Subsequently, while continuing his communication with Russian contacts, the suspect began preparing for the assassination. He acquired a firearm, purchased a bicycle and helmet, and used forged documents to buy a car, which he employed to track the politician.
