Athletes from aggressor states will be able to compete at tennis tournaments in Paris.
International Federation tennis (ITF) has decided to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics in Paris in a neutral status.
This is reported on the official ITF website.
It is noted that permission to compete at the Olympics and Paralympics will be granted to tennis players who meet the conditions of neutrality defined by the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees.
“Neutral athletes will be required to meet the selection and eligibility requirements set out in the relevant ITF Regulations.
The ITF's decision is in consultation with the majority of international federations for the individual events and athletes who will compete at the 2024 Games in Paris this summer. The ITF's position is also consistent with the current international tennis policy adopted in March 2022,” the organization said.
The Summer Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The Paralympic Games in the French capital will continue from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
We would like to remind you that earlier the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the 2024 Olympics as “individual neutral athletes.” They will be able to compete only in individual competitions, teams of aggressor countries will not be allowed to compete. Also, any national symbols of the Russian Federation and Belarus – anthems, flags, etc.
In addition, Russian teams will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games and Belarusian athletes who publicly support the war or have contracts with the armies of aggressor states.
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) alsoadmittedRussian and Belarusian athletes to the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris under a neutral flag.
