Against the background of this scandal, Adidas denied that the similarity of the kit with Nazi symbols was intentional, and also announced that it would stop selling T-shirts with the number 44.
It was also decided to change the design of the number 4. The changes will affect the numbers 4 and 14, under which the German national team players will play at the European Championship.
The German Football Association said that not a single player of the national team will wear number 44, because at the continental championship all team players will have numbers from 1 to 23.
Adidas spokesman Oliver Bruggen commented on the company's decision to retire the German national team jersey number 44.
“We will retire number 44 as soon as possible. Adidas employs people from approximately 100 countries and is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion “As a company, we actively oppose xenophobia, anti-Semitism, violence and hatred in all forms,” said Bruggen.
The Euro 2024 final tournament will take place in Germany from June 14 to July 14.
