The Olympics in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11.
On Tuesday , April 16, the flame of the Olympic Games 2024, which will be held in Paris, was lit in Greece.
The ceremony took place at the ruins of the Temple of Hera in Ancient Olympia, where the first ever Olympic Games were held in 776 BC.
The torch was lit by Greek actress Mary Mina, who played the role of the High Priestess. The first torchbearer was Olympic rowing champion Stefanos Duskos.
Next, the Olympic torch relay starts from Ancient Olympia. He will cover a distance of more than 5 thousand kilometers. It will first be transported to Athens for the site of the first modern Olympics in 1896. As a result, the flame will arrive in Paris, where it will be installed on one of the main attractions of the French capital – the Eiffel Tower.
The 33rd Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
Recall that the International Olympic Committee (IOC), against the background of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympics in a neutral status. They will only be able to compete in individual competitions, while teams from aggressor countries will not be allowed. Any national symbols of the Russian Federation and Belarus are also prohibited – anthems, flags, etc.
In addition, Russian and Belarusian athletes who publicly support the war or have contracts with the armies of aggressor states will not be allowed to participate in the 2024 Olympic Games .
It was also reported that Russian and Belarusian athletes were not allowed to the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics.
