The Australian made his first statement after the lost fight.
Australian boxer George Kambosos commented on his knockout defeat in a fight with Ukrainian Vasily Lomachenko.
The fight took place on May 12 in the Australian city of Perth. The Ukrainian knocked out the Australian in the 11th round and won the vacant IBF lightweight world title.
After the fight, Kambosos paid tribute to his opponent, calling him one of the best fighters in history, who deserved a championship belt.
“I'm a tough Australian boxer. I'm more Arturo Gatti, Mickey Ward. I don't want to take easy fights, I need the best. What can you say about this guy – he's one of the best fighters in history, an outstanding amateur.
I tried to show the best performance, started very well, stuck to the plan for the fight. He tried, but he is a real champion, he deserves this belt. I wish him all the best. And I will go about my business – everything that I can do.
I will say one thing – I did everything in the camp. I gave it my all. That's all I can do – give it my all, give it my all. That’s the kind of fighter I am,” Kambosos said in the ring after the fight.
For Lomachenko, this was Lomachenko’s first fight since May 2023, when he lost by unanimous decision to American Devin Haney in a fight for title of absolute world champion in lightweight. Now the 36-year-old Ukrainian has 18 victories (12 by knockout) and 3 defeats in the professional ring.
Kambosos suffered the third defeat in his career. Also on his record is 30. The summer Australian has 21 wins (10 by knockout).
It was previously reported that Lomachenko commented on his spectacular victory over Kambosos and winning the championship title.
