The Ukrainian youth football team (U-19) beat Italy in the third round of the group stage of the final part of Euro 2024. The match at the Inver Park stadium in Larne (Northern Ireland) ended with the score 3:2.
Victory in this match guaranteed the “blue-yellows” access to the semi-finals of the continental championship . Dmitry Mikhailenko's team quickly took the lead – Gennady Sinchuk scored in the 7th minute.
Squadra Azzurra came back in the 33rd minute – Tommaso Ebone scored a precise shot. Consequently, the teams went to the break with parity in the score.
At the beginning of the second half, the Italians took the lead – Marco Romano scored in the 51st minute.
However, the Ukrainian team was able to make a comeback. In the 54th minute, Daniil Krevsun equalized the score. And then in the 75th minute, Matvey Ponomarenko converted a penalty and brought our team victory.
Note that for a foul in his own penalty area, Italian national team defender Christian Corradi also received a second yellow card and was sent off from the field.

Thus, Ukraine with 5 points took second place in Group A and reached the semi-finals. In the first round, Mikhailenko's team tiedwith Northern Ireland (0:0), after whichtiedwith Norway (0:0).
Italy with 6 points advanced to the playoffs early from first position even before the final round. Before the match against the Ukrainians, Squadra Azzurra beat Norway (2:1) and defeated Northern Ireland (3:0).
In a parallel match of the last round of this quartet, Norway (4 points in the end) beat Northern Ireland ( 1 point) with a score of 2:0. Both teams did not qualify for the playoffs.
The Ukrainians' opponent in the semifinals of the continental championship will be determined later. It will be the team that wins Group B – France or Spain.
The current continental championship is a UEFA selection for the 2025 World Cup (U-20). Having reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024 (U-19), Ukraine simultaneously qualified for the 2025 World Cup (U-20).
The Ukrainian U-19 team is taking part in the European Championship for the sixth time. In this age category, the “blue-yellows” were able to overcome the Euro group stage for the fourth time, and their best result was victory at the tournament in 2009.
