The general director of the Serbian club accused the people of Kiev of unsportsmanlike behavior
General Director of Partizan Belgrade Milos Vazura reacted sharply to the fact that Dynamo Kiev cancelled all bilateral events before the first match of the second round of qualifying for the 2024/25 Champions League.
Also, before the start of the match, the Dynamo players did not shake hands with the Partizan players. Kiev residents limited the greeting to fists to avoid sanctions from UEFA.
The reason was the participation of the Serbian club in a friendly tournament in Moscow at the beginning of July this year. Before the game, Dynamo publicly condemned Partizan's trip to the aggressor country.
In response, the general director of the Belgrade team called Dynamo's refusal to shake hands “unsportsmanlike behavior” and said that Serbia did not deserve such an attitude towards itself.
“What is the reason for such unsportsmanlike behavior? Our country has not refused to recognize the territorial integrity of this country. We must ask the question: “What has Ukraine done regarding NATO aggression against our country, what should we do and how to respond to it?”
Why does someone put himself on the pedestal of a moral judge and judge from it Serbian affairs and behavior, and also lecture us without argument? Did they once condemn this aggression, or distance themselves from the crimes committed against us?
Why does this apply to sports fields? This has no place in athletic competition. Serbia consistently stays away from all military conflicts and persistently preaches peace,” Vasura told Sportski Zhurnal.
Dynamo at the Arena Lublin in Lublin, Poland, wasdestroyed “Partizan” with a score of 6:2. The return match between the teams will take place on Wednesday, July 31, in Belgrade. The starting whistle will sound at 21:00 Kiev time.
