Marta became the second Ukrainian tennis player to advance past the 2024 Olympics.
Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk has made a successful start to her performance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
In the 1/32 finals, the 22-year-old Ukrainian defeated New Zealander Lulu Sun in two sets – 6:4, 6:3.
The match lasted 1 hour and 23 minutes. During the time spent on the court, Kostyuk made three aces and made 7 double faults.
It should be noted that the match was supposed to take place on Saturday, July 27, but due to rain it was postponed to July 28.
For Marta, this was her debut match in the Olympic Games. Lulu Sun reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon this year.
Kostyuk's next opponent will be the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Clara Borel and Czech Ekaterina Siniakova.
Kostyuk is the second Ukrainian woman to reach the second round of the Olympic tennis tournament. Earlier, Elina Svitolina started the Games in Paris with a crushing victory.
Later, on July 28, another Ukrainian, Dayana Yastremska, will play her opening match of the individual tournament.
