Olga gave a very touching comment after winning the medal.
Ukrainian sabre fencer Olga Kharlan commented winning a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The 33-year-old Ukrainian shared her emotions about the award she won and noted that for her it was equivalent to gold. Harlan dedicated her medal to her homeland, the defenders of Ukraine, and the athletes who died because of the Russian occupiers.
“It's a completely different medal, it's bronze, but for me it's gold. Whatever the medal, it's gold for me. Because of the conditions, considering where our country is now, what we're going through, what every athlete who represents our country here goes through… It's hard to convey. It's very difficult.
I don't know what I did. It's just indescribable. I dedicate this to all of Ukraine, friends, this is for you. I dedicate this to our defenders, male and female. I dedicate this to those athletes who can't come here because Russia killed them.
Where did you get the strength to come back with the Korean? I'm Ukrainian. We have the strength, we will always have the strength. “We will always fight,” Harlan said in an exclusive comment for Suspilne Sport.
This is Ukraine's first medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. For Harlan, this is the fifth Olympic award in her career.
The 2024 Olympics are the fifth in Harlan's career. She won four medals at previous Olympic Games. Olha became the 2008 Olympic champion and the 2016 Olympic silver medalist in the team tournament, and also won bronze medals in the individual championship at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.
We remind you that the Games in Paris will last until August 11. Ukraine is represented at the XXXIII Summer Olympics by 140 athletes competing in 23 sports.
