The Ukrainians will continue to fight for a medal in the doubles at the Paris Games.
Ukrainian tennis players Lyudmyla and Nadiia Kichenok reached the quarterfinals of the doubles at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
In the second round match, they defeated the fourth seeds – the American duo Danielle Collins/Desiree Krawczyk. The match lasted 1 hour and 39 minutes and ended with a strong-willed victory for the Ukrainians with a score of 3:6, 6:4, 10:7.
In their opening match, Lyudmyla and Nadezhda defeated the Chinese Zhang Shuai/Wang Xinyu – 6:1, 6:4.
In the quarterfinals, the Kichenok sisters will compete against the eighth seeds – the Spanish pair Kristina Buksha/Sara Sorribes Tormo.
The Kichenok sisters are playing at the Olympics for the third time in their careers. In Rio 2016, they were eliminated in the first round, and in Tokyo 2020, they reached the quarterfinals.
It should be noted that Ukrainians Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremska also competed in the doubles at the 2024 Olympics, but they withdrew from the competition and did not reach the 1/8 final match.
In singles, Kostyuk is currently playing in the quarterfinals with Croatian Donna Vekic. Marta remains the only representative of Ukraine in the individual tennis tournament.
