Elina and Marta confidently won their first matches after the Olympics in Paris.
Ukrainian tennis players Elina Svitolina and Marta Kostyuk successfully started their performances at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto (Canada).
In the first round, Svitolina defeated the American Shelby Rogers, and Kostyuk defeated the German Tatyana Maria. Both matches ended with a score of 6:0, 6:2 in favor of the Ukrainians.
In the 1/16 finals, Elina and Marta will play each other. This will be only their second head-to-head match. The first time they met was in the 1/16 finals of the Australian Open 2018. Then Svitolina defeated Kostyuk with a score of 6:2, 6:2.
The Svitolina – Kostyuk match is scheduled for Thursday, August 8.
Note that most recently Svitolina and Kostyuk represented Ukraine at Olympic Games 2024 in Paris. In the singles tournament, Elina was eliminated in the 1/8 finals by the Czech Barbora Krejcikova, and Marta stopped in the quarterfinals, dramatically losing to the future finalist, Croatian Donna Vekic.
Kostyuk is also at the 2024 Olympics competed in doubles with Dayana Yastremska, but after Marta’s extremely tiring victory in the 1/8 finals of the singles tournament over the eighth racket of the world Maria Sakkari from Greece, the Ukrainians withdrew from the competition and did not enter the 1/8 match finals.
It was previously reported that Kostyuk danced on the court during the quarterfinals of the 2024 Olympics.
