Two more matches of the second round of the English championship with the participation of Ukrainians took place.
In the matches of the 2nd round of the English Premier League (EPL) of the 2024/25 season, Chelsea Mikhail Mudryk defeated Wolverhampton away (2:6), and Ilya Zabarnyi's Bournemouth drew at home against Newcastle (1:1).
Already in the 2nd minute of the match, Nicholas Jackson put the Blues ahead. In the 27th minute, the Wolves got even – Matheus Cunha scored. In the 45th minute, the Londoners took the lead again – Cole Palmer scored. However, in the 45+6th minute, Jorgen Strand Larsen restored parity in the game again.
During the break, Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca made one substitution – Pedro Neto came on the field instead of Mudrik, who played from the first minutes.
In the second half, the “pensioners” left the hosts no chance. From the 49th to the 63rd minute, Noni Madueke scored a hat-trick, with Palmer assisting him on all three occasions.
And in the 80th minute, João Felix put the finishing touches on the match, scoring after a pass from Pedro Neto.
Thus, Chelsea earned their first points in the current Premier League. Wolverhampton suffered their second defeat in a row.
In the next round of the Premier League, Chelsea will host Crystal Palace on September 1, and Wolverhampton will play Nottingham away on August 31. Before that, on August 29, Mudryk's team will play an away return match of the Conference League qualifying play-off round against Swiss Servette. At home, the London club won with a score of 2:0.
In a parallel match, Marcus Tavernier put Bournemouth ahead in the 37th minute. “Newcastle” responded with a goal from Aaron Gordon in the 76th minute.
Zabarnyi started for the “Cherries” and played the entire match.
“Bournemouth” played a draw for the second time in a row at the start of the new Premier League season. “Newcastle” has 4 points after two matches played.
In the third round of the Premier League, on August 31, Zabarnyi's club will play away against “Everton” of another Ukrainian defender Vitaliy Mykolenko, and “Newcastle” will host “Tottenham” on September 1.
