The life of the Swedish specialist was cut short by an incurable disease.
The famous football coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has died at the age of 76.
The sad news is reported by Sky Sports.
In January 2024, the Swedish specialist announced that he was terminally ill. He was diagnosed with late-stage, inoperable pancreatic cancer.
Eriksson spent most of his coaching career in England and Italy. In particular, he was in charge of the England national team from 2001 to 2006, leading the Three Lions to the quarter-finals of Euro 2004, the 2002 World Cup and the 2006 World Cup.
Eriksson has also coached Manchester City, Leicester, Roma, Fiorentina, Benfica, Sampdoria, Lazio, the national teams of Mexico, the Philippines and the Ivory Coast, and Chinese clubs Guangzhou, Shanghai SIPN and Shenzhen.
During his coaching career, Eriksson has won 18 trophies. He won the Portuguese championship three times with Benfica, the Portuguese Cup and Super Cup once each, and led the Lisbon team to the finals of the European Champions Cup and the UEFA Cup.
Sven-Göran won the second and so far the last Serie A championship in the history of Lazio. At the helm of the “eagles”, the Swede also won the Italian Cup and Super Cup twice, won the Cup Winners' Cup and Super Cup once each. In addition, he won one Italian Cup each with Roma and Sampdoria.
Eriksson's last place of work was the Swedish Karlstad, where he worked as sporting director.
