Alexander Komarov won his second award at the Games in Paris.
Swimmer Alexander Komarov brought Ukraine its first gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris.
He won the 100m freestyle style (class S5). In the final, the Ukrainian broke the Paralympic record, finishing with a result of 1:07.77 minutes.
For Komarov, this is the second award at the Games in Paris. On the first day of competition, Alexander won bronze in the 200-meter freestyle (class S5),
In total, Komarov won four medals at the Paralympics. In Rio de Janeiro 2016, he won gold in the 4x100m freestyle relay and individual bronze in the 100m freestyle.
The Ukrainian team now has seven medals from the 2024 Paralympics: one gold, four silver and two bronze.
In addition to Komarov, on the second day of competition, August 30, medals among Ukrainians were already won by Vladislav Belyi (silver in javelin throw in the F38 class) and Iryna Poyda (silver in 100m freestyle swimming in the S5 class).
The Paralympic Games in Paris will last until September 8. Ukraine is represented by 140 athletes competing in 17 sports. This is a record number of sports in the Paralympic history of Ukraine.
Recall that at the previous Summer Paralympic Games, which took place in 2021 in Tokyo, Ukrainian athletes won 98 awards: 24 gold, 47 silver and 27 bronze. With this result, Ukraine took sixth place in the medal count and became fifth in the number of awards.
