Cristiano achieved another unique achievement.
The Portugal national team defeated the Croatia national team in a home match of the 1st round of the group stage of the Nations League season 2024/25. The match in Group A1 at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon ended with a score of 2:1.
The hosts took the lead in the 7th minute of the match – Diogo Dalot scored after a pass from Bruno Fernandes.
In the 34th minute, the Portuguese doubled their lead – Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 900th goal of his professional career, finishing off a cross from Nuno Mendes from the left flank with a volley from the edge of the goal area.
For 39-year-old Ronaldo, this is the 131st goal for the Portuguese national team. At club level, he has scored 769 goals.
Cristiano became the first footballer in history to reach the 900 goal mark. It took him 1,236 matches to do so. By the way, Lionel Messi has scored 838 goals in his career.

At the end of the first half, the Croatians scored one goal – Borna Sosa hit Dalot's leg, from which the ball flew under the crossbar. However, the “checkered” ones couldn't do more.

In the second round, Portugal will host Scotland, and Croatia will play Poland at home. Both matches will take place on September 8.
