The Albiceleste are leading the qualifying tournament in South America.

The Argentina national team thrashed the Chilean team in a home match of the 7th round of the 2026 World Cup qualifying. The match in Buenos Aires ended with a score of 3:0.

The hosts scored all their goals in the second half. Alexis McAllister opened the scoring in the 48th minute.

At the end of the match, the “albiceleste” scored twice more – Julian Alvarez scored in the 84th minute, and Paulo Dybala put the finishing touches on the match in stoppage time.

Argentine captain Lionel Messi missed the match due to an injury received during the victorious 2024 Copa America final against Colombia.

It should be noted that before the start of the match, Argentine winger Angel Di Maria said goodbye to the fans, having ended his performances in the national team.

Review of the Argentina vs. Chile match

The Argentinians, with 18 points after seven matches, continue to lead the qualifying tournament in South America. The Chileans, with 5 points, are in the penultimate position.

Lionel Scaloni's men will play their next match in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on September 10 away against Colombia. The Chilean national team will host Bolivia on the same day.

The Argentina national team is the current world champion. In the 2022 World Cup final, the “Albiceleste” beat France in a penalty shootout.

Recall that the 2026 World Cup will be held in three countries at once – the United States, Canada and Mexico. This World Cup will be the first in which 48 teams will participate. From 1998 to 2022, the World Cup used a 32-team format.
