Wojciech Szczesny unexpectedly decided to return to football.
Former Juventus and Polish national team goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has become a Barcelona player.
According to the official website of the “blaugranas”, the contract with the 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper is calculated until the end of season 2024/25.
At the end of August, Szczesny announced his retirement. However, he has now decided to return to football, accepting an offer from Barcelona, whose main goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered a serious injury – a complete rupture of the patellar tendon in his right knee – and is out until the end of the current season.
Szczesny's previous club was Juventus. The Pole left the Old Lady in August of this year, agreeing to an early termination of his contract, which was scheduled to run until the summer of 2025.
Wojciech played for the Turin club from 2017 to 2024, winning Serie A and the Italian Cup three times, and also winning the Italian Super Cup twice.
Before that, Szczesny played for London's Arsenal, Brentford and Roma. Together with the “gunners” he won two Cups and the English Super Cup.
In total, Wojciech played 432 matches at club level, in which he conceded 434 goals.
After eight rounds, “Barcelona” leads the Spanish championship with 21 points, ahead of Real Madrid by 3 points.
The day before, Hansi Flick's team destroyed Swiss “Young Boys” (5:0) in the second round of the main stage of the Champions League.
The “blue garnets” will play their next match on October 6 away against “Alaves” in Primera.
