The Croatian became the oldest player in the history of the “Royal Club”.
Croatian midfielder Luka Modric became the oldest footballer in the history of Madrid “Real”, breaking the record of the legendary Ferenc Puskas.
This happened in the match of the 10th round of the Spanish La Liga 2024/25 season against Celta. In the 63rd minute, Modric came on as a substitute, making him the oldest player in the history of the Royal Club – 39 years and 40 days.
Luka broke the record of Hungarian forward Ferenc Puskas, who played his last match for Los Blancos in 1966 at the age of 39 years and 36 days.
The Croatian added another scoring touch to his historic achievement in the match against Celta. In the 66th minute, Modric made a magnificent through ball to Vinicius Junior, who scored the winning goal (2:1).
Modric has been playing for Real Madrid since 2012, when he moved from English Tottenham. In total, the Croatian has played 547 matches for the Madrid club and won 27 trophies. He is the most decorated footballerin the history of the club.
In addition, Luka is the winner of the 2018 Golden Ball. In the same season, he was named the best player of the year by FIFA and UEFA.
