Catalan “Barcelona" thrashed Munich “Bayern" in a home match of the third round of the main stage of the Champions League season 2024/25. The match at the Estadio Olimpico in Barcelona ended with a score of 4:1.
The hosts opened the scoring in the first minute of the match – Fermin Lopez made a great pass to put Rafinha one-on-one with Manuel Neuer, who got around the Munich goalkeeper and sent the ball into an empty net.
In the 10th minute, Bayern could have equalized – Harry Kane scored with a header after a pass from Thomas Müller from the right flank, but after reviewing the video replay (VAR), the goal was cancelled due to offside.
Another eight minutes passed and Kane scored a goal according to the rules, finishing off a cross from Serge Gnabry from the left flank with one touch.
In the 36th minute, Hansi Flick's men took the lead again – Robert Lewandowski sent the ball into an empty net, taking advantage of a pass from Fermin Lopez.
In the 45th minute, the “blue garnets” strengthened their lead – Rafinha received a pass from Marc Casado and scored a double, shooting right into the far corner.
In the second half, the Spanish club kept a clean sheet and brought the matter to a rout. In the 56th minute, Rafinha completed a quick counterattack by the “blaugranas” with an assist from Lamin Yamal with a shot into the far bottom corner, thus making a hat-trick.

In the first two rounds, “Barcelona” sensationally lost to the French “Monaco” (1:2) and destroyed the Swiss “Young Boys” (5:0). “Bayern” made fun of the Croatian “Dinamo Zagreb” (9:2), and then lost to the English “Aston Villa” (0:1).
After this victory, “Barcelona” (6 points) rose to 10th place in the overall standings of the main round of the Champions League. “Bayern” (3 points) dropped to 23rd place.
In the fourth round of the Champions League, the Catalans will play away against Serbian “Crvena Zvezda”, and the Munich team will host Portuguese “Benfica” of Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. The matches will take place on November 6.
The eight best teams of the main stage of the Champions League will reach the 1/8 finals. The clubs that take places from 9th to 24th in the overall standings will play paired play-off matches for a place in the 1/8 finals. The rest will finish their performance in European competitions.
