Rodrigo Bentancur to miss 7 matches and fine.
Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has received a severe punishment for a racist remark about his teammate Son Heung-min.
The English Football Association (FA) has disqualified the 27-year-old Uruguayan for 7 matches and fined 100 thousand pounds, journalist Ben Jacobs reports.
The scandalous incident occurred back in June of this year, when Bentancur took part in a talk show on Uruguayan television. During the broadcast, the TV presenter asked Rodrigo for Son Heung-min's T-shirt, to which he jokingly replied that he could bring Son's cousin's T-shirt, who “looks the same as him”.
Despite Bentancur's apologies, Son's words that he was not offended and the club's official statement that there was no conflict, the FA opened a case against the midfielder and decided to punish him.
It is noted that Bentancur's disqualification applies only to the domestic arena. He will be able to participate in Europa League matches.
Tottenham is currently in 10th place in the Premier League standings, with 16 points after 11 matches. Spurs' next game is away to Manchester City in the English Premier League on November 23.
