The International Court overturned the sanctions that the Ukrainian Association of Football applied to Anatoliy.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne upheld the appeal of former captain of the Ukrainian national football team Anatoliy Tymoshchuk against the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF), which struck him out of the history of Ukrainian football.
Tribuna.com reports this.
On March 11, 2022, the UAF Control and Disciplinary Committee decided to punish Tymoshchuk, who, after the start of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, did not stop working on the coaching staff of St. Petersburg's Zenit and did not condemn the actions of the terrorist state.
Anatoly was stripped of all titles, awards, honorary titles, coaching license and was banned for life from engaging in football activities on the territory of Ukraine.
Tymoshchuk tried to appeal the deprivation of his football regalia to the UAF Appeals Committee, but failed. After that, he appealed to CAS, which has now overturned the decision of the Ukrainian football authorities.
CAS justified its decision by saying that, in its opinion, during the period from the beginning of the full-scale invasion until March 11, 2022, Anatoliy did not take any actions that could serve as grounds for sanctions to be applied to him.
The Ukrainian Football Association has already commented on the shameful CAS decision regarding Tymoshchuk for Tribuna.com.
“The UAF has indeed already received a decision from CAS. Unfortunately, the Europeans approached this case in the most formal manner and confirmed their partial misunderstanding of the realities in which we live. The position of the Ukrainian football community is unambiguous and has never changed. There is no place for people like Tymoshchuk in Ukrainian football,” the UAF said.
We remind you that Tymoshchuk was the record holder for the number of matches played for the Ukrainian national team – 144 matches in the blue and yellow shirt.
In January 2023, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine imposed personal sanctions against Tymoshchuk for a period of 10 years. He was banned from entering Ukraine. He has also been stripped of all state awards, has no right to receive land plots as property, and all his assets – finances, movable and immovable property – have been blocked.
In September 2024, Tymoshchuk donated a Zenit T-shirt with his autograph to an auction to help the Kursk region, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are currently conducting an operation.
