Alexander Zakhozhiy unexpectedly lost to Kosovar Labinot Djodjaj.
Ukrainian Alexander Zakhozhiy sensationally lost the EBU (European Boxing Union) European heavyweight title, having been defeated by a representative of Kosovo Labinota Dzhodzhaya.
The fight took place on November 23 in the German city of Heidelberg. The 31-year-old native of Zaporozhye lost to his peer by unanimous decision of the judges – 116-110, 115-111, 116-110 in favor of the Kosovar.
Our compatriot started the fight well and already in the second round sent his opponent to the floor. However, the Kosovar got up and was able to continue the fight.
By the middle of the fight, Dzhodzhaj seized the initiative and was able to create huge problems for the Ukrainian. In the tenth round, Labinot knocked Zakhozhyi down and only the bell saved Alexander from an early defeat.
In the end, the boxers went the full distance of the fight, as a result of which Dzhodzhaj became the new European champion, and Zakhozhyi lost for the first time in his professional career.
