Yaroslava received an honorary award from World Athletics.
Ukrainian Olympic champion in high jump Yaroslava Maguchikh became the best female athlete in the world in 2024 according to the International Athletics Federation (World Athletics).
This was reported on the official pages of the organization on social networks.
In the final voting, Maguchikh beat Belgian Nafissatou Thiam, who became the 2024 Paris Olympic champion in the heptathlon.
It should be noted that Yaroslava was nominated for the World Athletics award for the third year in a row, but won this prize for the first time.
Earlier it was reported that Maguchikh was recognized as the best European athlete of 2024.
Recall that this season, Maguchikh won gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, won gold at the European Championships and silver at the World Indoor Championships, and also became the Diamond League champion, winning all the stages in which she participated.
At the beginning of July of this year, Maguchikh broke the world record in the women's high jump. At the Diamond League stage in Paris, the Ukrainian was the first in history to clear a height of 2.10 meters. Yaroslava surpassed the achievement of the Bulgarian Stefka Kostadinova, who jumped 2.09 meters at the 1987 World Championships in Rome.
