"White-Blues" went into the New Year break as “winter champions”.
“Dynamo” defeated “Veres” in a home match of the 17th round of the Ukrainian Premier League (UPL)season 2024/25. The match at the capital's Valeriy Lobanovskyi stadium ended with a score of 1:0.
The only goal in the final UPL match in 2024 was scored by the Kyiv team in the first half. In the 23rd minute, the “white-blues” successfully played a penalty kick – Oleksandr Pikhalenok passed the ball to Vitaliy Buyalsky, who found Vladislav Vanat in the penalty area, and he accurately shot into the left corner.
For Vanat, this goal was already the tenth in the current UPL competition. The 22-year-old forward has single-handedly led the scoring race in the Ukrainian championship.
Review of the Dynamo – Veres match
Thanks to this victory, Dynamo (43 points) strengthened its leadership in the UPL table. Oleksandr Shovkovskiy's team became the “winter champion”, 5 points ahead of Oleksandria. Shakhtar (33 points), which has a match in hand, is in third place.
After the defeat to the capital club, Veres is in 9th place in the UPL table with 19 points.
In the next round of the UPL, which will take place after the winter break, the Kyiv team will host Karpaty, and the Rivne team will meet Kryvbas away. The base date of the matches of the 18th round of the elite division of the Ukrainian championship is February 22, 2025.
It should be noted that before the resumption of the UPL, Dynamo will have the final matches of the main round of the Europa League: on January 21, the “white-blues” will play with Turkish Galatasaray, and on January 30, they will face Latvian RFS. These matches will no longer have tournament significance for the Kiev team, because they prematurely lost their chances to reach the playoffs after six defeats in a row.
After six rounds, the Kiev club occupies the last, 36th place in the overall standings of the main round of the Europa League. Dynamo remains the only participant in the tournament that has not yet scored a single point.
