Oleksiy Drozdenko has passed away at the age of 83.
On Sunday, December 15, former Shakhtar Donetsk footballer and coach Oleksiy Drozdenko died at the age of 83.
The tragic news was reported by the miners' press service. The cause of death is not specified.
Drozdenko is a product of Donbass football, he began his career in his hometown of Chistyakovo, played for the miners' reserve team, and in 1962 made his debut in the main team of Donetsk Shakhtar.
Alexey played for the Donetsk team as a defender for 11 seasons, played 165 matches. He was included in the list of 33 best players of the Ukrainian SSR three times. In 1971-1972 he was the captain of the “orange-blacks”.
After finishing his career as a football player, Drozdenko was a member of the coaching staff of the Donetsk team (1979-1983, 1989-1994, 1997-1999, 1999-2002), was the acting head coach of Shakhtar (October-November 1999), worked in the children's and youth school and academy of the “miners” (1975-1978, 1984-1988, 2004-2008).
Earlier it was reported that the father of the Shakhtar football player died in the war with the Russian occupiers.
