Tottenham Hotspur's Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancursuffered a serious head injury during the first leg of the English League Cup semi-final against Liverpool.
The unpleasant incident occurred at the start of the match. The 27-year-old Spurs player tried to clear the ball after a Merseysiders corner, but landed awkwardly with his head right on the turf.

The victim lay motionless on the field for a long time while doctors provided him with emergency assistance. After that, the footballer was carried out on a stretcher wearing an oxygen mask.
Bentancur was taken to a local hospital. Later, the player himself published a post on social media in which he spoke about his condition, thanking everyone for their support.
“Friends, everything is fine! Thank you for the messages. Congratulations on the victory, guys,” Rodrigo wrote in Instagram Stories.
The match ended with a 1-0 victory for Tottenham. The only goal of the match was scored in the 86th minute by 18-year-old Swedish midfielder Lucas Bergvall.

The teams will play the return match on February 6 at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool.
