On Friday, January 31, the draw for the playoff matches (1/16 finals) of the Champions League 2024/25 season took place in Nyon, Switzerland.
This is the first edition of the most prestigious European tournament in a new format: 36 clubs competed in a single league, where they played against eight different opponents (four matches at home and four away).
The eight best teams from the main stage of the Champions League directly qualified for the 1/8 finals: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Atletico, Bayer, Barcelona, Inter, Liverpool and Lille.
The clubs that took 9th to 24th place in the overall standings will play paired play-off matches for a place in the 1/8 finals. The rest have finished their participation in European competitions.
