Russian national team not allowed to participate in 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship

The team of the aggressor state continues to be suspended from international competitions.

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) did not allow the Russian national team to participate in the 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship.

The corresponding decision was announced by the ice hockey federation of the aggressor state.

A meeting of the IIHF was held on February 3 and 4, at which a decision was made to continue the disqualifications national teams of Russia and Belarus of all age categories due to the war in Ukraine.

Since the disqualification of Russia and Belarus is calculated at least until the end of 2026, the teams from these countries will not be allowed to participate in the 2025 and 2026 World Championships.

It is also noted that the issue of the participation of the Russian hockey team at the 2026 Olympics will be considered separately by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Russian hockey players will miss the world championships from 2022 as a result of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine.

The 2025 Ice Hockey World Championship in the elite division will be held from May 9 to 25 in Sweden and Denmark. The 2026 world championship will be hosted by the Swiss cities of Zurich and Fribourg.
