The first racket of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk (No. 21 WTA) failed to reach the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Doha (Qatar).
In the quarterfinals, the 22-year-old native of Kyiv was defeated by American Amanda Anisimova (No. 41 WTA). The tense three-set match lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes and ended with a score of 6:4, 5:7, 4:6.
This was the third face-to-face meeting between the tennis players. Before that, Kostyuk defeated Anisimova twice, including at the 2023 Australian Open.
We add that Kostyuk started the competition in Doha with a victory over Zeynep Sonmez from Turkey (6:3, 6:3), after which in the second round she sensationally beat the third racket of the world, American Cori Gauff (6:2, 7:5), and in the third round she won a confident victory over Poland's Magda Linett (6:4, 6:2).
