Media: Italian Tennis Federation wants to buy Masters in Madrid, hoping for the fifth Grand Slam tournament

According to the Italian publication La Stampa, the Tennis and Fitp Falls (FITP) federation made a proposal to acquire the rights to hold the Madrid Open Masters tournament for $ 550 million.

These rights are currently owned by IMG, which is part of the Endeavor Group Holdings.

The purpose of Initiatives – To get an additional week in a tennis calendar to expand the Rome Open Masters to the format of a two -week competition, which is traditionally used for Grand Slam tournaments. In the long run, the Italian Federation seeks to realize an ambitious dream – To organize the fifth category of Grand Slam.

In October 2024, the first rumors appeared that Endeavor was considering the possibility of selling a number of its assets, including Madrid Open and Miami Open. However, such a solution may face serious resistance in Spain. Madrid Open is the most prestigious tennis event of the country, playing a key role in attracting tourists and maintaining the region’s economy. Its possible departure from the calendar raises many questions, including where and when a new ATP Masters or WTA 1000 level can be organized. Neither Endeavor, nor the organizers of Madrid Open, did not provide official ones at the time of publication comments on the information voiced by La Stampa.
