The Madrid circuit that will host the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix has been given a new name. The promoters of the event have announced that the track, previously known as the Ifema Madrid Circuit, has been renamed Madring.
“Formula 1 circuits are usually named after the city or region in which they are located – Monza, Imola, Interlagos, Spa, Silverstone, Miami, Las Vegas,” the Madrid round's promoters said in a statement. “However, their full official names are rarely used. For this reason, Madring aims to create a concise and memorable identity that directly refers to the city, is instantly recognisable around the world and requires no translation.
Ultimately, it is more than a name. It is a genuine and distinctive iconic brand, designed to resonate instantly with today’s Formula 1 audience.”
The promoters of the Madrid race have signed a ten-year contract with Formula 1, so Madring will be on the calendar until at least 2035. The contract is reported to bring Formula 1 500 million euros.
