In a recent broadcast on Servus TV, Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko called Sauber debutant Gabriel Bortoleto a “B driver”. In Melbourne, Gabriel responded to the Austrian, recalling that he had beaten Red Bull representatives in the junior series.
Gabriel Bortoleto: “I don't care. I've seen this quote, but I like challenges. It was said by Helmut, who brought not only a lot of talent to Formula 1, but also brought a lot of drivers who didn't have talent. So he's not always right, sometimes he's wrong. I hope I can prove him wrong this time too.
Whatever I say now won't change Helmut's opinion of me. But the results on the track will. I'm sure that one day I'll prove him wrong, and I hope he'll accept that. Right now I'm focused on my job and doing the best I can.
“I'm proud of what I've achieved in the junior series. In Formula 3 and Formula 2 I beat the Red Bull drivers, so I'm good.”
