WBC, WBO and WBA heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk (23–0, 14 KOs) shared his opinion on the attitude of his compatriots and criticism from fans:

“What responsibility? What is expected of me? These are not my problems. At the beginning, when I was heavily insulted, I did not understand why this happened. At that moment, I had some bad thoughts about leaving Ukraine, because there were offers to represent other countries.

These are the USA, Turkey, Ireland. At first, I was offended by the people who put pressure on me. Then I realized that the country had nothing to do with it. It existed before these people, and will exist after. If I am in the spotlight, then there are those who also want to draw attention to themselves. And at the expense of my name, someone wants to earn popularity for themselves,” Usyk shared his opinion.

It was previously reported that the Ukrainian boxer ranks first in the updated ranking of the best modern boxers regardless of weight category.
