The International Boxing Association (IBA), previously headed by the Russian, was stripped of the right to host Olympic tournaments.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has officially included boxing in the program of the 2028 Summer Olympic Games , which will be held in Los Angeles (USA).
This was reported on the IOC website. The corresponding decision was made unanimously at the 114th session of the organization in Athens (Greece).
“Thank you for your support for the return of boxing to the Olympic programme. We can look forward to a great Olympic boxing tournament,” said IOC President Thomas Bach.
It should be noted that the IOC previously stripped the International Boxing Association (IBA), which is headed by the scandalous Russian functionary Umar Kremlev , of the right to hold Olympic tournaments.
The boxing competitions at the 2024 Olympics in Paris were organised by a special division created by the IOC. The alternative organisation World Boxing was founded by national federations that left the IBA.
In February 2025, the IOC provisionally recognized World Boxing as the governing body of world boxing, which is intended to replace the IBA.
“World Boxing is very grateful to the IOC for the confidence they have shown in our organisation by bringing boxing back into the 2028 Olympic programme. I can assure them that we will do everything in our power to ensure that we operate with high standards of governance and transparency and ensure sporting integrity.
World Boxing understands that participating in the Olympic Games is a privilege, not a right, and we are determined to be a reliable partner that will uphold and support the values of the Olympic Movement,” said World Boxing CEO Boris van der Vorst.
The 2028 Olympics will be held in Los Angeles from July 14 to 30. These will be the 34th Summer Olympic Games.
