In Melbourne, the first stage of the season, Lance Stroll took a very respectable 6th place – the Canadian Aston Martin driver managed to avoid the mistakes of which many rivals, including his teammate Fernando Alonso, fell victim, and the team acted correctly in choosing tactics.
Ahead of the race weekend in Shanghai, Lance refrained from making any predictions, only stressing that the team has work to do and also praising Gary Gannon, his new race engineer, who previously worked with Haas F1 for a long time.
Lance Stroll: “It’s great to start the season with this result and score a lot of points – of course it’s a boost. We’ll see how we do this weekend, but after one race it’s too early to talk about the balance of power and how competitive we are compared to our rivals.
We are now going to be racing on a track that has different characteristics, but we will learn more as we go along. There is a very intense rivalry in the middle group of teams, but the picture will change somewhat from track to track.
In terms of the AMR25 car, there are quite a few areas that we need to continue to work on, because we weren't really competitive all weekend in Australia. In the end, we showed a good result, but we know we have some room for improvement. In general, we need to try to gradually increase the speed of the car.
“The Australian weekend was the first weekend I had with my new race engineer and Gary was very supportive, so we got on well with his support. We worked together all weekend to improve the car, find the best set-up and it was a good start.”
