Egis Klimas , manager of IBF and IBO lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs), spoke vaguely about his protégé’s future plans.

In particular, the functionary answered the question of whether Vasily could end his professional career without a fight with the WBA lightweight belt holder Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

“Lomachenko can do what he wants. Lomachenko can retire, Lomachenko can fight – and he will still be Lomachenko.”

“What else motivates him now? I can tell you one thing – it's definitely not money. The motivation to become the undisputed champion? He already has a legacy. He has proven who he is. Maybe his children, maybe his family, maybe someone else can motivate him, but it's definitely not money and it's definitely not a legacy.”

Let us recall that last summer, Vasyl Lomachenko negotiated with WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis. However, the Ukrainian then stopped discussing the potential fight and decided to take a break from his career. Later, the media reported on the Ukrainian's potential retirement. Lomachenko received a medical exemption from the IBF, which will allow him to retain his championship title.

Earlier, in the summer of 2024, Klimas said that the Ukrainian wanted to spend more time with his family and spoke about his lack of motivation at the moment. The president of the TopRank promotional company, Todd DuBoef, said that Vasily was too disappointed with the fight with Devin Haney, when he could not become the absolute world champion in lightweight, and decided to take a break.

Last week, Klimas reported that Lomachenko had resumed training, noting that perhaps “in a month or two we will have very good news.”

The Ukrainian champion had his last fight in May 2024, defeating Australian George Kambosos by technical knockout.
