The World Boxing Association (WBA) has proposed holding a mini-tournament with the participation of four super heavyweights: Kubrat Pulev (32-3, 14 KOs), Fabio Wardley (18-0-1, 17 KOs), Michael Hunter (24-1-2, 17 KOs) and Jarrell Miller (26-1-2, 22 KOs).
Pulev will defend his WBA Regular title against Hunter. The boxers have been trying to agree on the fight for a long time without success. Now the WBA has given the parties 30 days to reach an agreement on the fight.
Wardley, who is ranked No.1 by the WBA, will fight Miller for the WBA's “interim” title. The fight is scheduled for June 7 at Portman Road Football Stadium in Ipswich.
The winners of the two fights will meet each other. The fight must take place less than 180 days after their previous fights, or no later than December 31, 2025. In this way, the WBA wants to satisfy the disputes of several boxers for the status of the official contender for the championship belt and reduce the number of “junior” titles.
Let us recall that the WBA heavyweight title is held by Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukrainian plans to hold his next fight against IBF belt holder Daniel Dubois in order to become the undisputed champion again.
