Real Madrid goalkeeper Andrey Lunin was not included in Real Madrid's squad for the first leg of the 2024/25 Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal in London.
In turn, his competitor, Belgian Thibaut Courtois , is on the roster and today he has already trained fully with the team.
Let us recall that the Ukrainian goalkeeper suffered a soleus injury in the return semi-final match of the Spanish Cup against Real Sociedad (4:4). It was reported that Lunin could be out of the game for four weeks, and in the game with Valencia it was not ruled out that he would take the field on painkiller injections.
Ultimately, Andriy remained on the bench, and the place in goal was unexpectedly taken by 19-year-old debutant Fran Gonzalez. Real sensationally lost in the home match of the 30th round of Primera (1:2). Head coach Carlo Ancelotti hoped that the Ukrainian would have time to recover in time for Arsenal.
In total, Lunin has played 12 matches this season (four clean sheets), conceding 19 goals.
Courtois has been absent from Real's recent matches due to muscle strain. Back in late March, it was reported that there was no serious threat to the Belgian's health, but the coaching staff of the Whites preferred to play it safe and give Thibaut additional time to recover.
In the Primera tournament table, Real is in second place, four points behind the leader Barcelona. The match in the capital of England against Arsenal will be played by the Creams on Tuesday, April 8. The start is at 22:00 Kyiv time.
