WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KO) commented on the upcoming fight against IBF title holder, Cuban William Scull (22-0, 9 KO).
“It's cool because I've never had anything like this before. For me, this is an opportunity to do something that I've never done before in my career. These are the kinds of things that motivate me now – fighting in other countries, gaining new experience. This is exactly what my career needs right now.”
“Everyone is confident of victory before a fight with me. Confidence disappears in the ring, right? Because in the ring everything is different. That's the whole situation.”
“The opponent? A good fighter with a Cuban style. He will give a tough fight. Especially at the start of the fight. But I have seen all this before. I have been through all this before. I have fought with everyone. With every style. I can adapt to anything. I am ready to fight. Now I am just waiting for the fight.”
The unification fight will take place on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Canelo previously signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, and the fight against Skull will be the first of those.
Alvarez was previously in talks with WBA junior middleweight champion Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) for the Riyadh Season event, which was scheduled for September 2025 in Las Vegas. However, the deal fell through, and the parties did not provide details regarding the reasons for the cancellation of the fight.
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, 34, last fought in September 2024. The Mexican won a unanimous decision over Edgar Berlanga, earning his 62nd victory in the professional ring.
