Virgil van Dijk, central defender and captain of Liverpool FC, has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay at Anfield for another two years. The new deal ensures that the 32-year-old will remain with the Reds at least until the summer of 2027, reports the Baltimore Chronicle with reference to FBC.net.ua.

The player joined Liverpool in January 2018, transferring from Southampton in a deal worth £75 million at the time—a record fee for a defender back then. Since then, he has become one of the pillars of the team’s defense and an integral part of their triumphs in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and UEFA Super Cup.

This season, van Dijk continues to play a leading role within the team. His presence on the pitch, leadership qualities, and ability to organize the backline remain essential for Liverpool as the squad undergoes a generational transition.

The contract extension was signed amid preparations for a new managerial era at the club, as current head coach Jürgen Klopp is set to depart at the end of the season. Liverpool’s management sees van Dijk as a central figure in the upcoming transitional period and a reliable leader who can maintain stability in both the dressing room and on the field.

Since his debut for the Reds, van Dijk has played over 250 matches and remains one of the most dependable centre-backs in world football.
